About
Located at the south-eastern tip of the island of Newfoundland, in eastern Canada, Mistaken Point’s fossils contain the history of Earth’s living organisms during the Ediacaran Period. This was when the first large, biologically complex organisms appeared on the planet, after almost three billion years of micro-dominated evolution. The name Mistaken Point was given to this landmark since its misty coastline caused ships to frequently mistake it for Cape Race, expecting to turn safely into the harbor and instead crashing into the rocks.

Booklet
A booklet available at Mistaken Point's visitor center combines information from two booklets into a single information guide. The narrow pages detail the site's key features and history, and the larger pages describe the significance of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Signage
The Mistaken Point site signs are available in the 6 official UNESCO languages—English, French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, and Mandarin—each containing a brief description of the World Heritage Site. Situated along a pathway leading to the observation area, and arranged with ample distance from one another as part of the landscape, the signage is constructed with frosted glass elevated by stone supporting structures.
